In a renewed commitment to student welfare and improved living conditions, the Student Union Government, ably led by Comr. Osadebamen Ehizojie, in collaboration with the University Management, carried out an on-site inspection of the university hostels. Present during this important exercise was our ever-committed Vice Chancellor, Professor (Mrs) Eunice Eboiserehimen Omonzejie, the two Deputy Vice Chancellors, the University Public Relations Officer, and other senior officials of the University.
The inspection commenced at Dangote Hostel, where students openly shared concerns regarding their living conditions. Similar assessments were then conducted at Iyayi Hostel, Emotan Hostel, Igbinedion Hostel, and Big Joe Hostel. At each location, students voiced specific issues ranging from water, power supply, sanitation, and general maintenance needs.
In response, the Vice Chancellor assured students that immediate action will be taken, with renovation and restructuring of all university hostels scheduled to begin soon. She emphasized that the welfare of students remains a top priority and promised continuous engagement to address their needs.
This development was met with great joy by hostel occupants, many of whom noted that it has been years since a Vice Chancellor personally visited or assessed hostel conditions. Within just weeks in office, Prof. (Mrs) Eunice has not only made history but has also set a new tone of responsive leadership.
The Student Union Government expresses heartfelt appreciation to the University Management for listening to the cries of students and acting swiftly. We also thank the hostelites for their calmness and cooperation during the inspection.
We encourage students to continue partnering with the SUG and management through constructive feedback and engagement. Together, we are building a better AAU.
